omega 3 supplements

Dear Reader,

Remember my last post about Omega 3 and Omega 6

A short recap:
The ideal ratio of Omega-3 to Omega-6 is 1:2
Now, guess what the typical American diet ratio is today? About 1:20!
Americans are getting 10 times more Omega-6s than is required.  This simply means way to much, and increases inflammation

So, let’s talk about our North American Diet that causes us to ingest so much Omega 6.

In a nutshell….It is Vegetable Oils

Canola oil, safflower oil, soybean oil, corn oil, peanut oil,  sunflower oil, and maybe there are even other oils. All these oils contribute to that deadly silent inflammation.  You need to control those oils.
Sad but true…

Think about it: how far from the real vegetable is it’s respective oil?  I mean take safflower oil.  Have you seen safflower?  Does it look like oil?  How much oil do you think is in corn?  As much as there is in a tablespoon of oil?  NO, so how hard is it to get the same amounts of vegetable oil just by eathing the respective vegetables? No the vegetables that the oil comes from are NOT naturally saturated with oil.

Corn is not drenched in oil….olives are naturally oily though.

So, now what?  Olive oil and macadamia nut oil are both great-tasting oils that you can cook with without increasing inflammation in your body.

You do need to be taking fish oil supplements! First, because of the mercury, you should eat fish within reason and supplement Omega 3 WITH supplements.

Remember, the more Omega 6 you eat, the more Omega 3 you need.  But, mostly, eat sensibly and be informed about what you want to put in your mouth. I still think our parents knew what they were talking about when they said “In Moderation”.  And, remember that fish oil we had to take when we were kids?

PS remember, fish oil is NOT meant to cook with!

ps, A lot of people know that omega-3 fatty acids are a good thing, but have thought of them in the area of nutritional or health foods," said study author Dr. Carl J. Lavie, medical director of cardiac rehabilitation and prevention at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans.
