I think  that we all make resolutions to keep healthy and fit or GET healthy and fit in the new year.  Maybe we don’t state the resolution verbally, or write it down, but, deep down, we all want to improve our health and fitness levels. Well, here are some ideas to get you started.

1. Eat what’s good for you, what is put on our planet, such as: vegetables, fish (at least take the omega 3 supplements if you don’t like eating fish, omega 3 eggs(not fried in fat), , whole grains, fruits, nuts, and some oils, like olive oil. You always need be aware of what you put in your body! Take control today.

2. Did you make a New Years Resolution? Get Healthier and Fitter this year? Well then you need to cut the bad fats and cut the high carbs, and increase your healthy, low fat proteins. Tofu is high in protein, soy product is high in protein. Low fat turkey, chicken and cheeses. Beans, legumes contain protein.

3. How often have we heard of the following? Drink more water! T

4. If you can afford it, try to go organic. Organic veggies, fruits and meats are much better for you, but, they can be more expensive too.

5. If you pick one specific food (or supplement if necessary) you should take, it is Omega 3! Now, you could get these Omega 3 fatty acids from fish, such as tuna fish (who doesn’t love tuna salad, tuna casseroles, tuna sandwiches?), salmon…there are many healthy recipes for cooking with salmon, or mackerel. If you have trouble eating fish, or your kids have trouble with fish, go for the supplements! If you want to know the full range of benefits of Omega 3, then come on over here and learn all about it.

6. Do not eat the high fatty processed foods. Get ready this year for “real cooking”, not just heating up. For snacks, use nuts (but not too many).

7. Quinoa is one of the healthiest grains you can eat. And I love grains, any grains. Quinoa has about two times the amount of protein of other cereal grains.

8. Almonds are an excellent source of Vitamin E, an antioxidant. Almonds have been known to lower cholesterol levels, thereby helping you to decrease your risk for heart disease. But, do not eat too many nuts, they are very high in calories. Nut butters are another way to enjoy the benefits of nut. Almond butter is a delicious spread.

9. Oats have a well deserved reputation for lowering cholesterol. A single serving of oats could lower your cholesterol by about 23%.

10. Tomatoes have fairly high levels of lycopene, an antioxidant that helps to protect your cells from damage. Tomatoes are so good, and can be used in so many different ways.
