Here is a big surprise, as reported March 31, 2005 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine: A Randomized Trial of Low-Dose Aspirin in the Primary Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease in Women.
40,000 Women age 45 and older were kept track of for 10 years to see if 100mg of aspirin that was taken every other day gave protection against heart attack and stroke. The results: while aspirin therapy seems to help men against cardiovascular disease, according to this study, women receive no such protection against heart attacks until they are 65 years of age, or older.
This study did show promising results in reducing stroke risks. Aspirin has an anti – inflammation property.
There are many studies and theories that are looking at inflammation as being the cause of cardiovascular disease, auto immune diseases, and strokes and even cancer.
So, what causes inflammation in our bodies?
1 – Unhealthy and under performing cells, and aging cells.
2 – Those free radicals we hear about so often. Free radicals damage our cell structures.
Often elevated free radicals are caused by our extremely stressful lives we lead. They can be caused by fast foods, highly processed foods, too much pop, not enough water; And, of course, the environment.
Also, a combination of poor diet, which leads to poor nutrition, which is often accompanied by no exercise will lead to cell damage. So, bottom line, a lousy lifestyle is a huge cause of body inflammation.
Unfortunately, reduction of our inflammation is not that easy to accomplish. Of course changing your diet to include much more fruit and vegetables helps, because the antioxidants in these foods help combat free radicals. And changing from sugar drinks to healthy pure water also helps. Our bodies need good pure water. After all, that is the major component of our body.
And, exercise. We hear so much about it. Now, just get out there and do it. Walk! Do a lot of walking, take your kids, your spouse, your dogs, or even alone. Walking is great exercise and it helps you cope more with all that stress in your life.
Also, try to get the amount of sleep your body needs and demands. Exercise will help you achieve that also.
