I just came back from a nice long walk. And, I did a lot of thinking, yes, I do think a lot sometimes
I was thinking of kids and their struggle with weight loss and as I see it, an addiction to carbs. Yup, many kids have those issues.
==>> “How To Make Quick, Easy To Prepare
Healthy Recipes That
Your Kids Will Love To Eat”
These delicious, child-tested recipes are healthy yet quick to prepare, specially designed for today’s hectic lifestyle.
And it’s often our own fault. What do we put in their mouth? What do they see us eat?
In the olden days the kids saw mommy cook, grandma cook, the neighbours cook and they all pretty well cooked the same way and the same things. The commercials were still pretty decent when it came to food. But now, today?
The other day I saw a commercial that advertised a meal deal of:
- 2 hamburgers with cheese and bacon
- A large fries
- And of course, a large pop
Now, how many carbs, sugars, and fats do you think is in a meal like that? And the sad thing is this:
- Adults are doing the offering of this meal deal
- Adults are doing the ad for this meal deal
- Adults are running the ad on their network
- And finally, a lot of parents “eat it all up”…in more than one way.
So tell me, how in blazes are the kids supposed to know what’s the right way to eat?
We all need to take responsibility on all levels. The kids are going to grow up and shift the current life span, which is now high. It is going to drop again.
Their lives are going to be compromised.
What are you and I going to do about this problem?
1 – Eat out less. Make eating out a treat and not the norm.
2 – Control the carbs and sugars at mealtime. For instance; do feed them French fries, but instead of filling the plate with the fries, do maybe only 5-10 fries and fill the rest of the plate with salad, cherry tomatoes, low fat protein.
3 – Teach the kids why you are doing what you are doing. Get them involved. Teach them how to read labels. What it all means. Teach them about portion sizes on the labels…Kids are smart so give them a chance to get pro-active in their own fitness and well being.
4 – Be an example. Eat right, cook with your kids; Exercise with your kids; Walk with your kids; Talk with your kids.
Lets us all do what needs doing to ensure a healthy and long life for all the children. That’s our job.
